History
Diablo Ranch is a beautiful Cattle Ranch on the slopes of Mt. Diablo, in Walnut Creek, California. Angel Kerley purchased Diablo Ranch in 1957. Diablo Ranch is a cow-calf operation that provides top-quality beef in the cattle industry.
Diablo Ranch has established a reputation for producing top-quality beef and as such usually commands prices at or near the top at the livestock sales.
The Ranch's headquarters are situated at approximately 1,600 feet on the slopes of Mt. Diablo which tops 3,849 feet at it's summit.
Demonstration Ranch Program
The late Angel Kerley, owner of Diablo Ranch, worked with the late William Penn Mott, Jr., environmental leader and the then President of the California State Parks Foundation, on their mutual dream of an interpretive program and the formalization of the very popular Demonstration Ranch Program at the Ranch.
In 1979, Angel proudly donated 281 acres of the most beautiful part of her Ranch, the Castle Rocks and lower Pine Canyon, to the people of the State of California as a gesture of her commitment to continue educating people about the history of cattle ranching on Mt. Diablo. She and her family were assured that the ranch operation and the demonstration ranch program would be able to continue to thrive on the slopes of Mt. Diablo for generations to come.
We are proud that this contribution of the Castle Rocks has enabled people to have access to one of the most beautiful parts of the mountain. We are also pleased that this habitat has helped the endangered perigrin falcon to return to the mountain once again.
We are happy to share with the children and adults in our community the history of cattle ranching, the unique lifestyle, and the respect for nature that we enjoy as cattle ranchers.
We are proud to represent a piece of California history. Over the past 36 years, since 1972, thousands of school children and adults have visited the Ranch to learn what life is like on a real working cattle ranch. Here's a picture of a recent tour:
